What we collect, and what we don't
Short version: your email if you give it to us, nothing else, and we never sell it.
If you sign up for alerts
- What we store: your email address, an optional ZIP code, the date you signed up, whether you confirmed, and a random token used for your confirmation and unsubscribe links.
- Why: to send you occasional alerts about Douglas County property tax notices, hearings, and deadlines, and (if you gave a ZIP) to point you to the right districts.
- Double opt-in: you get one confirmation email first. If you don't click it, you're never emailed again.
- How often: only when something matters. A person reviews and approves every alert before it goes out.
- Unsubscribe: every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. It works immediately.
- Deletion: email hello@dctaxwatch.org from the address you signed up with and we'll delete your record entirely.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent, trade, or share your address with anyone, including campaigns, parties, or advocacy groups.
- We don't run advertising or tracking cookies. There is no analytics script on this site.
- We don't collect anything if you just read the site. The letter tool runs entirely in your browser; what you type is never sent to us.
Who handles the data
The site and subscriber list are hosted on Cloudflare (US data centers). Emails are delivered through a transactional email provider that processes addresses only to send our messages. Both are bound by their own privacy terms.
Public notices we monitor
Our monitor reads public legal notices that governments are required to publish. That involves no personal data about you.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects subscribers, we'll say so in the next alert.
